What is a Self Aligning Ball Bearing? What Are Its Applications? How to Distinguish Its Authenticity?

A self-aligning ball bearing is a double row bearing with spherical outer ring raceway. The inner ring, ball, and cage can rotate freely around the center of the bearing, and it has an adjustable mind. Its flexible ability can compensate for alignment errors, shaft deformation, and bearing seat deformation. Self-aligning ball bearings are suitable for transmission bearings in the shaft and upper shell that are difficult to center, and the shaft is prone to deflection. Self-aligning ball bearings can bear the bidirectional axial load and radial load.

Ⅰ. The composition of the self aligning ball bearing

The self aligning linear bearing is a double row ball bearing in which the outer ring raceway is processed into a spherical shape, and the inner ring has two deep groove raceways. It has an adjustable mind. The self-aligning ball bearing is a double row non-separable bearing. The bearing consists of an outer ring with a spherical raceway, an inner ring with a cylindrical or tapered hole, a ball, and a cage assembly. It is mainly used to bear radial load. While carrying radial load, it can also take a small amount of axial load but generally cannot handle the pure axial load, and its limit speed is lower than that of deep groove ball bearings. This type of bearing is mostly used on dual-support shafts that are prone to bend under load and in components where strict coaxiality cannot be guaranteed by double bearing holes, but the relative inclination of the center line of the inner ring and the center line of the outer ring shall not exceed 3 Spend.

Ⅱ. The self aligning bearing types

Usually, the self aligning bearing types are classified into miniature series and general series.

Miniature series: 10x, 12x, 13x

General series: 12xx, 13xx, 22xx, 23xx

The inner bore of the 12, 13, 22 and 23 series self-aligning ball bearings can be cylindrical or conical. The self-aligning ball bearing with the inner hole taper of 1:12 (code suffix K) can be directly installed on the conical shaft, or it can be installed on the cylindrical shaft through an adapter sleeve.

Ⅲ. Sealing of the self aligning ball bearing

Bearings are divided into open and sealed designs. 12, 13, 22 and 23 in the self-aligning ball bearing series also have bearings with sealed design. Sealed bearings have contact seals on both sides, with the suffix 2RS.

Ⅳ. Bearing clearance of the self aligning ball bearing

The basic type of cylindrical hole self-aligning ball bearing is made of ordinary group. Bearings with larger radial clearance (code suffix C3) are available upon request. The radial clearance of the basic type of self-aligning ball bearing with tapered bore is the C3 group which is larger than the ordinary group.

Ⅴ. Lubrication and working temperature of self aligning ball bearings

The deep groove ball bearing with dust cover and the sealing ring has been filled with appropriate amount of grease during assembly. It should not be heated or cleaned before installation, and it does not need to be relubricated during use.The grease and the sealing material limit the operating temperature, so the operating temperature range is also different: The operating temperature range of the open bearing with a brass cage is –30°C to +150°C. With a glass fiber reinforced nylon cage, The maximum working temperature of the approach is +120°C. The operating temperature range of sealed self-aligning ball bearings is -30°C to +100°C.

Ⅵ. Applications of the self aligning ball bearing

The self aligning ball bearing uses its characteristics to make machines' operations better. Self-aligning ball bearings are suitable for bearing heavy loads and impact loads, precision instruments, low-noise motors, automobiles, motorcycles, metallurgy, rolling mills, mining, petroleum, papermaking, cement, sugar crushing and other industries and general machinery. It is the most widely used type of bearing in the machinery industry.

Ⅶ. Discrimination of the authentic self aligning ball bearing

1. Check whether the steel stamp is legible

Each bearing product will have its brand name, label, etc., printed on the bearing product body. Although the fonts are tiny, the products produced by regular manufacturers are printed with steel stamping technology, and the fonts are pressed before heat treatment. Therefore, although the fonts are small, they are deeply recessed and obvious. Normally, the fonts of counterfeit products are not only blurred. Due to the rough printing technology, the fonts float on the surface, and some of them can even be easily erased by hand or have serious manual traces.

2. Check whether there is noise in the operation of the bearing

Hold the inner sleeve of the bearing with your left hand, and turn the outer sleeve with your right hand to make it rotate slightly. Listen for noise during the operation of the bearing. Due to the backward production conditions of most counterfeit products, it is a completely manual workshop operation. The bearing body will inevitably be mixed with impurities such as dust and sand during the production process. Therefore, noise or unsmooth operation will occur when the bearing rotates. Through this inspection step, you can determine whether the products are produced by regular industrial bearing manufacturers or produced with qualified machines.

3. Check the bearing surface for dirty oil stains

Whether there are turbid oil stains on the surface, we should pay particular attention when buying imported bearings. Since there is still a gap between the domestic anti-rust technology and foreign advanced manufacturing countries, it is easy to leave thick oil marks and feel sticky when touching it by hand. There is almost no trace of anti-rust oil on the imported bearings.

4. Check whether the chamfer of the bearing is even

The so-called chamfer of the bearing is the junction of the horizontal plane and the vertical plane. Due to the limitation of production technology, the counterfeit bearing products are not handled satisfactorily at these corners and corners. This can be easily distinguished.

5. Check the bearing packaging

The packaging is divided into inner packaging and outer packaging. After the bearings are manufactured and passed the inspection, they will be cleaned and anti-rust treated, and then placed in the inner packaging to achieve waterproof, moisture-proof, dust-proof, shock-proof, and maintain the quality and accuracy of the bearing and the purpose of facilitating use and sales.

The inner packaging of the bearing is divided into three categories according to the anti-rust period:

(1) Short anti-rust period packaging: The anti-rust period is 3 to 6 months. Bearings that are put into use in a short period in large quantities will generally use this anti-rust packaging. Based on the principle of ease of use, simple packaging is adopted.

(2) Packaging for the general anti-rust period: one year of anti-rust period, suitable for general-purpose bearings.

(3) Long anti-rust period packaging: two years anti-rust period, ideal for special and precision bearings.
