In our customer’s application, there should be a cover fixed onto the bearing and there should be a certain distance kept between the side surface of the outer ring and the cover. The workers normally measure 4 points on the outer ring of the bearing and take the average to calculate the position of the cover, but it is very often that the average was good but the extreme value of the points are too big. Then they have to measure more points again and again. The customer were using a world famous A brand at that moment and they didn’t realize there is a better way can help them to have a higher efficiency.
When we were in the plant and talked with the workers there, we found we can help them. What we do was we made the tolerance of the runout on the side surface of our bearing to be 1/3 of the A brand’s. From view of machining side, it is not difficult for us; but by doing this, the average and extreme value of the points are close to each other, this helps the workers to save much time and our customer to have a higher efficiency for their assembly process, as a result, we help them to reduce the cost.
